OMAHA (DTN) -- Soybeans were 85% planted and 66% emerged as of Sunday, June 16, according to USDA's latest weekly Crop Progress report. That compares to 71% planted last week and a five-year average of 91% planted; 48% emerged last week and a five-year average of 80% emerged.

"These numbers will be viewed as modestly bullish, reflecting the ongoing planting difficulties and late development," said DTN Analyst Todd Hultman.

USDA is no longer reporting planting progress for corn, but added soybean condition ratings this week. Soybeans were rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 30% fair, 54% good and 10% excellent.

The nation's corn crop is 92% emerged, compared to 85% last week and a five-year average of 97%. "Given the ongoing slow pace, this should be viewed as neutral," Hultman said.

Corn condition is reported as 2% very poor, 6% poor, 28% fair, 52% good and 12% excellent, slightly better than last week. DTN's Corn Condition Index also showed a slight improvement, rising to 158 points versus last week's 155 points and above last year's 154 points. "This could be viewed as slightly bearish," Hultman said.

Winter wheat harvest increased by 6 percentage points to 11% complete, compared to 5% last week and a 25% five-year average. "This should be viewed as slightly bullish," Hultman said.

Winter wheat condition stayed about the same with a 1 percentage point increase in the very poor rating and an equal increase in the excellent rating. DTN HRW Crop Condition Index fell to 27, down from 29 a week ago.

Spring wheat is 92% planted and 84% emerged, compared to 87% and 71% last week, respectively. The five-year averages are 97% planted and 94% emerged. Spring wheat condition ratings improved from 62% good to excellent to 68% good to excellent. "In the key state of North Dakota, 86% of the crop is planted and 74% of it has emerged, decent progress from a week ago and slightly bearish," Hultman said. "The DTN Spring Wheat Crop Condition Index increased from 156 a week ago to 166 on Monday, also slightly bearish. Overall, Monday's report is slightly bearish for wheat prices."

Cotton was 95% planted and 10% squaring as of Sunday. That compared to 88% and 6% last week and five-year averages of 97% and 19%. Rice was 98% emerged, compared to 94% last week and a five-year average of 96%.
